Travelling sustainably
SUMMER is fast approaching. People will be starting to go on vacations. It helps to know that it is now possible to take an eco-approach to your holiday trips. A green lifestyle is not something that you can only practice at home. First of all, before you go you must make sure that all the appliances unplugged. You can conserve a lot of energy while you are away by adjusting air-conditioning and thermostats.
Next you can take a green approach to your flight bookings. Airlines practice sustainable travel solutions, and one of the things they do is offer electronic tickets, also known as e-tickets. The tickets and information are stored in the computer system, which eliminates paper waste.
The use of reusable containers for your packaging also helps. You can fill the containers with shampoo, lotions, and other personal necessities. To organise items in your luggage in a sustainable way you can reuse plastic and paper shopping bags; use plastic bags to pack and separate items such as shoes and wet bathing suits, and paper bags for items such as souvenirs and snacks.
When you reach your destination you need to check with hotel housekeeping to ask about the linen and bedding policy; at some hotels you will be able to go for an option that lets you opt-out of sheet and towel laundering, which will help with saving energy.
As you collect brochures and papers you must put them all in a single plastic bag so that you can keep them in one place, and you also would not need to use more than one bag. When you leave your room for sight-seeing you must remember to switch off lights, turn off air-conditioning and TVs to reduce energy consumption.
